How To: Copy and paste in your browser on your Motorola Droid
This how-to video explains how to copy and paste text in the browser in a Motorola Droid phone. When we are browsing in a Motorola Droid phone and if we come across any text containing website URL and if we want to copy and paste the text in the browser then we can follow these two methods, first method is by pressing the "menu" button on the phone, many options will show up, look for the option "more" and then choose the option "select text", after doing this if we just click on the text that we need to copy automatically the text will be highlighted in purple with a message saying "text copied to clipboard", after this go to the address bar and click it once, then the browser will be highlighted after that give a long click until a menu pop up giving list of options, look for the option "paste", if we click that option the copied text will be pasted in the address bar, then click on "go" to continue the browsing. Another method of copying and pasting text in the browser is by pressing both "menu" button and "E" key on the key board, then we can select the text we can copy by simply clicking on the text, the rest of the procedure is same as we did earlier. How To: Forward Missed Call Alerts & Text Messages on Your Samsung Galaxy S3 to an Email Address
There are some calls you really don't want to miss. Whether it's "I'm going into labor" or "We have some questions about your résumé," not being able to answer or respond to certain messages can cause some serious problems. No matter what the case may be, missing a call or forgetting about a voicemail is bad. Given the growing importance of (and attachment to) our smartphones, some of us are practically helpless without our devices. What if there was a way to see all your missed calls and voicemails no matter where your phone is? Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
How to Access Messages When You Don't Have Your PhoneXDA forums member Sanjay RamSwamy created I Forgot Mobile to alleviate the stress caused when you accidentally leave your phone somewhere or just can't use it.In an important class, but are expecting a call? This app can send you an email when it comes in. Left for work and realized Mr. Cellphone is MIA, but don't have time to turn around? No worries, you'll receive missed calls and text messages in your inbox. Here's how to set it up.

Step 1: Download & Install the AppAfter downloading the free version of I Forgot Mobile from Google Play, you'll need to set up the email account you want to receive your messages. As of now, the application only works with Gmail addresses.

Step 2: Set Up Your Gmail AccountFor "Email ID" and "To Email ID," you'll want to enter in the same Gmail address. If your information is correct, I Forgot Mobile will send a test message to the corresponding account.

Step 3: Check Your EmailGo to your inbox just to make sure that you have received it and it doesn't end up in your spam folder. Since it will appear as if you sent the email to yourself, it shouldn't be an issue.

Step 4: Try It OutNow that you know that your email is working correctly you can go ahead and test the app out. Have someone give you a few calls and text messages to make sure the information is forwarded to your inbox. It should be noted that your phone has to have a data or Wi-Fi connection in order for I Forgot Mobile to work. Obviously if your device is off or not connected to an internet source, there's no way for it to send emails.
How to Get Email Notifications for All CallsThe version of I Forgot Mobile featured above is the free demo version. The free version has an on/off toggle and will send missed calls or messages ONLY if the number appears in your contacts list. The full version (currently $2.90) gives you the option to get emails for all calls and messages or just those from you contacts. The paid version also can automatically turn on I Forgot Mobile remotely. If you forgot your phone and the app is turned off, you can call it two times within one minute to turn it on from wherever you are. The app will then start sending missed calls and text messages as emails. Again, this is in the paid version only.

We've all been in a similar situation before—you set your phone's ringer to silent before heading into class, and when you check your phone hours later, you find that your silenced phone didn't alert you to 8 missed calls and 17 text messages. Well, I don't actually get that many texts or calls in real life, but I'm sure some of you do.

News: Everything You Need to Know About the Google Pixel 2 Specs, Features & More

News: Everything You Need to Know About the Google Pixel 2 Specs, Features & More
After months of leaks and rumors, Google has finally unveiled the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. If there were such a thing, the Pixel would be the one "true" Android flagship — so even if you don't plan on buying a Pixel 2, you'll want you learn more about this milestone device.Last year's Pixel lineup marked the first-ever phones that were truly made by Google, and sales figures were impressive for a first go. But this year, we're finally getting a chance to see some trends and get a feel for what Google, the OEM, will come to represent. So far, recurring themes for the Pixel line seem to include a class-leading camera and a focus on AI, with the Google Assistant at the forefront. Neither of the new models are truly bezel-less, so form factor doesn't appear to be a hallmark. Instead, Google seems to be putting user experience first (a la Apple), so we'll take a well-rounded look at the new Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 below.Don't Miss: What Google's HTC Purchase Means for the Android Ecosystem
The Bottom LineCamera: The Pixel 2 scored the highest-ever rating on DxOMark's mobile camera review board. The original Pixel kept the high mark for 11 months before being usurped by the iPhone 8, but the Pixel 2 has reclaimed this crown. Early reviews indicate this may indeed be the best camera ever put into a smartphone. Assistant: The Google Assistant is a big part of the Pixel 2. Unlike other Android phones with access to the Assistant, the new Pixels let you talk to Google by simply squeezing your phone. It will also be the first phone to get Google Lens, so it has a leg up on the competition here. Now Playing: A new always-listening feature will automatically identify any music playing around you and show the song's name on the lock screen without any user input. This takes place entirely on-device, so there's no need to worry about Google "spying" on you. Flagship Internals: Top-notch specs include a Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4 GB RAM, an LG-made OLED panel (on the XL variant), dual stereo speakers, and an f/1.8 aperture camera with optical image stabilization. Software: Three years of software updates are guaranteed (two years of Android OS upgrades and an extra year of security patches). Combined with Google's track record for updating their phones months before any other OEM, this means the Pixel 2 models will have the best software support available to any Android device. Headphone Jack: Neither the Pixel 2 nor the Pixel 2 XL include a 3.5 mm headphone jack. A USB-to-mini-jack adapter dongle comes in the box, and optimized Bluetooth earbuds are available for $160.Don't Miss: Get the Pixel 2's 'Name That Song' Feature on Any Android

CameraWe can't talk about the new Pixels without addressing their cameras — this is perhaps the single biggest reason to buy a Pixel 2. At 12.2 megapixels with a giant 1.4 µm pixel size and a wide f/1.8 aperture, the hardware is certainly top-notch. But as the camera spec race has started to reach its end, software and image processing are the real differentiating factors nowadays.First, the main knock on the rear camera from last year's Pixel models has been addressed: The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL both sport optical image stabilization (OIS). When you combine this with Google's incredible software image stabilization (EIS), you'll notice your action shots have less blur, your low-light photos have reduced noise, and images in general will appear sharper. Image via Google Google's highly acclaimed HDR+ algorithm has made a return with the Pixel 2. This is now supplemented by a dual-pixel camera sensor, which means that every tiny dot in your photos was actually captured by two independent light sensors. In short, low-light performance should be better than any other phone, and exposure balance will more closely mimic what the human eye actually sees.Speaking of the dual-pixel sensor, Google has used this as a means to recreate some of the effects you might get with stereoscopic camera setups. Instead of having two lenses on the back, the Pixel 2 only has one — but each sub-pixel in the single camera captures two sets of photons. Combined with some innovative software, this can effectively recreate the iPhone's Portrait Mode feature. In the end, the images produced by this camera should speak for themselves. Google put together a demo reel to showcase the Pixel 2's photographic prowess, so check it out below. The photos and video clips were all shot on the Pixel 2, and no color grading or post-processing was done.

Google AssistantThese days, the Google Assistant is everywhere — on Android or iOS, in numerous smart speakers, and even included with a set of earbuds. But the Pixel 2 still manages to maintain a small degree of exclusivity when it comes to Google's AI-powered virtual assistant.First off, when Google Lens makes its debut later this year, Pixel phones will be the first to gain access to the new feature. Think of Google Lens as a sort-of "Google for the real world." The same machine learning skills Google developed for its self-driving car have been combined with knowledge gained from Google Photos' search feature to develop technology that lets you learn more about objects by pointing your camera at them. This will be integrated into the Google Assistant and Google Photos in the coming months.Secondly, Pixel models are the only devices that will be fully compatible with the Google Assistant on the new Pixel Buds. Combined with Google Translate, these Bluetooth earbuds can even do real-time translations, so you'll be able to hold a conversation when you're in a foreign country — if you can afford the $140 price tag, that is.Finally, both Pixel 2 models will sport a squeezable frame similar to the HTC U11 — except the squeeze gesture will be used as a handy way to launch the Google Assistant. Sure, it's mostly a gimmick, but it beats saying "OK Google" to access your assistant. Triggering the Google Assistant with a squeeze. Image by Google/YouTube

Design & BuildThe Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are, for the most part, functionally identical. The biggest difference is that the smaller version has significantly larger bezels. Not that the Pixel 2 XL is really bezel-less like the iPhone X or Galaxy Note 8, but Google has significantly increased the screen-to-body ratio on the larger model.Compared to last year's models, the Pixel 2 lineup sports a more streamlined aluminum enclosure with a noticeably smaller rear glass panel. The camera lens now protrudes a tiny bit, but that could be seen as a good thing when you consider the lens flare issues that plagued last year's Pixels as a result of the camera being embedded under the rear glass panel.Sadly, neither Pixel 2 model will include a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Instead, you'll have to rely on a USB-C dongle that connects the charging port to your existing headphones, or you can buy headphones that connect directly to the USB-C port. From the looks of things, however, we don't expect the Pixel 2 to make our list of the best phones for audiophiles this year. The smaller Pixel 2 model will be available in three colors: Just Black, Kinda Blue, and Clearly White. The Pixel 2 XL, on the other hand, only comes in two color combinations: Just Black or Black & White. That last color scheme may look a little odd at first glance, but we're betting it will grow on you like the two-tone Nexus 6P did with its "Stormtrooper" look. Image via Google Don't Miss: The Top 4 Phones for Music Lovers & Audiophiles
Software & FeaturesIf you're a fan of Android — the operating system, not the ecosystem — then the Pixel 2 is the phone for you. As you surely know, Google makes Android, and the Pixel 2 doesn't really have an OEM skin, so it truly embodies Google's vision for the platform. As is the case with all Google phones, the Pixel will receive the latest version of Android months before any Samsung, LG, or HTC phone even sniffs the update. Google has promised three full years of software support for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, so you'll get Oreo to start, then Android P, Android Q, and another year's worth of security updates.Aside from updates, some of the most unique features in the new Pixel lineup are software related as well. The camera will have a new shooting mode called Motion Photos, which behaves almost identically to Apple's Live Photos. It will also have a Face Retouching feature that removes blemishes and cleans up selfies.Other minor software enhancements remain to be seen, but we've already got a good look at one major change. The Google Search widget, which has long been a staple at the top of Android home screens, has now been moved to the dock at the bottom and received a makeover. Finally, a new feature called Now Playing will automatically tell you the name of any song playing. You don't have to do anything — when any song is playing, you'll see the artist and title directly on your lock screen. Now Playing uses the Pixel 2's low-power always-listening core to scan for music without draining battery, and the database it checks against is housed completely on-device, so your privacy is intact and your monthly data allotment isn't in danger.Don't Miss: Why Google's Version of Android Performs So Much Better Than Samsung's
Raw SpecsBoth of Pixel 2 models sport the same basic specifications, but there are some minor differences, which we'll note below. Key specs include a 1440p OLED screen and a 3,520 mAh battery — the largest battery in any mainstream flagship phone made in 2017.OS Version: Android 8.0 Oreo Screen Size: 5" (Pixel 2), 6" (Pixel 2 XL) Resolution: 1080p (Pixel 2), 1440p (Pixel 2 XL) Dimensions: 6.22" x 3.02" x 0.31" Rear Camera Aperture: f/1.8 Rear Camera Resolution: 12.3 megapixels Front Camera Resolution: 8 megapixels Processor: Snapdragon 835 RAM: 4 GB Battery: 3,520 mAh Water Resistance: IP67
Price & AvailabilityFlagship phones tend to command premium prices, and the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are no exception. The smaller Pixel 2 will stay at the same price range as its predecessor, so it'll run you $649 for the 64 GB version or $749 for the 128 GB variant. The Pixel 2 XL, however, will see a bump in price, and will go from $849 for the 64 GB model to $949 for the 128 GB version. All models are available for preorder at the Google Store online, or you can buy from Verizon or Project Fi if you prefer to go through a carrier. Both models will start shipping out and hitting shelves on October 19th — but be warned, Google had problems keeping the Pixel in stock last year, so you'll want to move quickly if you'd like to be one of the first to get your hands on the new flagship.Overall, the Pixel 2 already appears to be one of the best Android phones available. Though it doesn't quite have the spec sheet of the LG V30 or Galaxy Note 8, it comes very close on paper, and real-world performance should blow every other Android flagship out of the water. News: Apple Just Released iOS 12.1 Developer Beta 4 to Testers

Just six days after the release of dev beta 3, developers now have their hands on the fourth iOS 12.1 beta. While Apple has recently followed a lengthy and inconsistent release schedule with its beta software, the company seems to want to keep testers happy with 12.1 — beta 4 might have come less than the standard seven days after beta 3, but at least it's here quickly.Beta 4 does not appear to offer any new features or major changes from the third beta — instead, testers should expect minor bug fixes and security patches, standard for most beta updates. That said, we will continue to monitor this version, and will update this article with any new information. To download and update your iPhone to iOS 12.1 dev beta 4, you first need to be a registered developer with a valid configuration profile. Google Assistant 101: How to Change the Voice on Android & iPhone to More Natural Male & Female Speakers

Google Assistant 101: How to Change the Voice on Android & iPhone to More Natural Male & Female Speakers
Before Google I/O 2018, the Google Assistant for Android and iOS had only two available voice options to choose from — a robotic female and male voice. But there are now six additional voices, and these ones sound way more natural than any other mobile voice assistant (plus, John Legend's voice is coming later this year). These more natural voices are thanks to WaveNet technology, which involves less human recording and vocabulary simulation. That means John Legend and other voice actors didn't need to spend as much time in the studio to power Google Assistant's voice, and that makes it likely that even more celebrity voices will hit your smartphone or other devices in the future.Six new voices are available right now, while John Legend's will be coming later this year (though, his might not be a user-selectable voice), and here's how you change to one of them on Android and iOS as soon as they hit your device. All voices may not be available based on whatever language you have set for Google Assistant.Don't Miss: How to Manage Account Permissions for Google Assistant

Change the Voice on Android & iOS (The Easiest Way)No matter if you're using Google Assistant on Android or your iPhone, the easiest way to change the Assistant's voice is to just ask it.With the Google Assistant listening, either by opening it up with its shortcut (if your device has one), tapping the mic icon, or using "Hey Google," you can ask it to "Change voice." No matter if you've been updated to the version with the six new voice options or not, it will respond with the following, of which you would just say "Yes" or "No" to.Here is an example of my other voice. Would you like me to use this one? If you've been updated to the newer Google Assistant already, we'd hoped it would give you options to preview and select from the six more natural voice options, but it looks like it's stuck with only giving the option to choose between the original voices right now. Hopefully, that will change soon.

Changing the Voice on Your iPhone (The Long Way)On an iPhone, you need to open up your Google Assistant app. Once open, tap on the blue and white "Explore" button in the top right, then hit the ellipsis (•••) on the following page. On the popup, select "Settings." Next, tap "Preferences," followed by "Assistant Voice." This will lead you to the available voices. If you only see "Voice 1" and "Voice 2" in the list, you haven't been updated to the new Assistant yet. Once you are, you should see six more available options to choose from for a total of eight. You can tap the speaker button next to each to preview the voice, then just tap on the voice you like to toggle it on, then exit the settings.

Changing the Voice on Android Devices (The Long Way)If you're using an Android device, you can use the same steps above for iPhone if the Google Assistant is already open. You can also change the Assistant's voice is by opening the Google app. Once open, tap on the three-lined tab at the bottom, then tap "Settings" under the Google Assistant heading at the top. After that, tap on "Preferences" under Account. Next, tap on "Assistant voice." This will lead you to the available voices. If you only see "Voice 1" and "Voice 2" in the list, you haven't been updated to the new Assistant yet. Once you are, you should see six more available options to choose from. You can tap the speaker button next to each to preview the voice, then just tap on the voice you like to toggle it on, then exit the settings.
Matching Preferred Voices to Specific Google Home UsersDon't like the sound of John Legend's voice or any of the other more natural voices, and you're using a Google Home with multiple people in your family that also have privileges? You can assign different Google Assistant voices to respond to different people using the Google Home mobile app for Android or iOS with Voice Match. We won't cover that here, but just know that you can do it if you'd like.Don't Miss: How to Check Your Google Assistant History on MobileFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

Telegram 101: How to Password-Protect Your Chats for Extra Security

Telegram 101: How to Password-Protect Your Chats for Extra Security
If you're using Telegram for its "Secret Chats" feature, which provides end-to-end encryption for your messages, then I'd highly recommend locking down the app itself with a passcode, PIN, or password. While your phone itself may have a secure lock screen already, if that gets compromised, you'll at least have an extra layer of security on your important conversations. This is important since all of your Secret Chats in the Telegram messaging app are stored only on your device and the devices of your recipients. Those are the only two points of access for these encrypted messages. So if your messages are important enough to make sure you're using end-to-end encryption, they're important enough to lock behind another mechanism.Don't Miss: How to Enable End-to-End Encryption for Your Telegram Chats

How to Set a Passcode Lock for iPhoneFirst up, head to the "Settings" tab in the bottom right of the app, then choose "Privacy and Security" from the list of options. Next, tap on "Passcode Lock" under the Security heading, then tap on "Turn Passcode On" on the following screen. Next, you'll need to choose a four-digit passcode, then verify it on the following screen. Afterward, you'll be presented with more options in the Passcode Lock settings. By default, Telegram will auto-lock if you've been away from the app for 1 hour, but you can change this to 1 minute, 5 minutes, or 5 hours. You can also disable this feature, though, I don't recommend it.And if a four-digit passcode isn't enough security for you, you toggle off "Simple Passcode." Enter your current four-digit passcode on the next screen, then choose a stronger alphanumeric passcode and confirm it.Don't Miss: How to Create Stronger Passwords (Advice from a Real Hacker) You can also toggle on "Use with Touch ID" to use your fingerprint in lieu of your passcode to unlock the Telegram app. You can still use the passcode whenever you'd like while this is enabled. If you don't want to wait for the auto-lock to kick in, or if you've disabled that for some reason, you can also manually lock Telegram from the "Chats" tab. At the top of the screen, just tap the open lock icon up top and it will show as locked now. Of course, it won't actually lock until you exit the app, but once you do, you'll need to input your passcode or Touch ID (if set) to get back in. How to Set a PIN or Password Lock on AndroidThe process is very similar on Android for this but just different enough to warrant a separate section. Tap on the hamburger icon in the top left, then tap on "Settings" in the sidebar menu. On the next page, select "Privacy and Security," followed by "Passcode Lock," and then toggle on "Passcode Lock." When prompted, either enter in a four-digit PIN of your choice or tap on "PIN" and select "Password" to choose a more secure alphanumeric password. Afterward, confirm your PIN or password. On Android, by default, the "Unlock with Fingerprint" option will be toggled on, so as long as you have a fingerprint registered on your phone, you'll be able to unlock with that. You can also set the auto-lock to 1 minute, 5 minutes, 5 hours, or never. Again, just like in the iOS version, you can manually lock the Telegram app by tapping on the open lock icon in the top right of the Chats view, then exit the app. The next time you open it, you'll have to use either your fingerprint, PIN, or password, depending on what you went with. In my opinion, this is one of the reasons why Telegram is better over other security-minded messaging apps such as Signal Private Messenger. While Signal does let you set a passphrase on Android to lock the app, there is no such option for iPhone.Don't Miss: The 4 Best Phones for Privacy & SecurityFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, and Instagram Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

How To: Find Your Misplaced iPhone Using Your Apple Watch

How To: Find Your Misplaced iPhone Using Your Apple Watch
Your Apple Watch is a fantastic tool that can help you perform daily tasks on your iPhone. Notifications get filtered through it, you can respond to messages on it, and you can even use Apple Pay to purchase goods and services. Your Apple Watch is also a valuable asset when it comes to finding your lost iPhone, too.Of course, you can use Find My iPhone via iCloud on the web or another iOS device to track your iPhone's location or make your iPhone ring out loud so you can find it under the bed or a couch cushion. But your Apple Watch should always be your first option since it's so easy to ping your lost iPhone right from your wrist.Don't Miss: 4 Ways to Find Your Lost iPhone Without Logging into iCloud You can't get an exact map location of your iPhone on the Apple Watch, but you can make it send out a beeping "I'm over here" alert. You have to either be within Bluetooth range or connected to the same Wi-Fi network, so it's only useful for finding your iPhone when it's misplaced around your general vicinity. In instances where your iPhone's speakers aren't working correctly, or it's very dark out, you can even make the device's LED flash for a visual clue to where it is.If you have the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) or Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS + Cellular) model, cellular data alone won't work for locating an iPhone. We tested one provided by Verizon Wireless, but pinging over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi will still work when the iPhone is nearby.

Making Your iPhone Beep LoudlyTo ping your iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the watch face to open the Control Center, then tap the "Ping iPhone" button (it looks like an iPhone ringing).Your iPhone will emit loud tones to help you locate it (even if it's on mute). The sounds will only emit from the iPhone for a few seconds, so you can tap the "Ping iPhone" button again (and again) on your Watch until you locate the iPhone. You do not need to wake or unlock your iPhone to stop the beeping. Shop Apple Watch Models on Amazon

Making Your iPhone Flash BrightlyIf your iPhone's speakers aren't working at all or are muffled because of water or whatever, or if you're currently in a dark area, you can also make the LED flash on your iPhone with the Apple Watch.Just do the same as when pinging with sound, except instead of tapping the icon, touch and hold it for about three seconds. Your iPhone's LED on the rear will start flashing for a few seconds, for a total of five flashes, and the iPhone will make the pinging sounds too. Repeat as necessary.

How to Tell if Your Connected to the Apple WatchIf the ping option is disabled, you're not within range of your iPhone, are not connected to the iPhone's Bluetooth, or aren't on the same trusted Wi-Fi network as the iPhone. It may say "Disconnected" at the top of the Control Center. To be on the same Wi-Fi network, you would have to have had Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled on your iPhone, then have connected at least once while using your Apple Watch at some point in the past. The Wi-Fi network has to be 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz, so personal hotspots and the like won't work. You can tell if your Apple Watch is connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth by the green phone icon on your Watch's Control Center screen. If you see a Wi-Fi symbol instead, that means you're connected to a Wi-Fi network, most likely the same one that your iPhone is connected to if it's in the same location. If your iPhone is not in range of your Apple Watch, neither pinging or flashing will work, so you'll need to jump on iCloud or use the Find My iPhone app on another iOS device to track or ping it.Don't Miss: How to Turn Off 'Find My iPhone' RemotelyFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: Make an Anonymous Facebook Profile to Keep Your Personal Data Private

How To: Make an Anonymous Facebook Profile to Keep Your Personal Data Private

Between the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the revelation that Facebook logs your calls and text history on Android, many are considering joining the #DeleteFacebook movement. But it can be difficult to leave the site, because so much of its content is only available to active users. If you want to keep in the loop without sacrificing your privacy, you'll want to follow the steps below.First, let's get this out of the way: Nothing on the internet is truly private. All of us who sign up for Facebook should know that every friend we make, event we accept, and picture we view is logged and tracked by the company. However, there are steps we can take when creating a new profile that can severely limit the information Facebook has access to. In fact, other than your activity on the site, Facebook won't see any of your personal data.Don't Miss: How to Delete Your Facebook Account & Scrub Your Data

Step 1: Make a Burner Email or Phone NumberFirst, if you truly want to use Facebook off the grid, you'll need to sign up with an email account or phone number that is only used for your new profile. If you use a preexisting email account or phone number, your messages, search history, connected apps and more can potentially be fair-game for Facebook and its advertisers. The best practice here? Start from scratch. For a "burner" email, you can go about it a few ways. First, you can sign up for a new email account and only use it for creating your anonymous Facebook profile. You can choose whichever email service fits you best — the point is to make sure its only use is for your new Facebook account.Don't Miss: How to Open a New Gmail Account However, the more secure method is to take advantage of the Temp Email app. With this app, it will generate a temporary email address that isn't associated with you or your personal information. With this app, you will receive any emails sent to this email address such as any account verifications or confirmation codes. And when you don't need it, you can hit "change," essentially getting rid of email forever.Install Temp Mail: Android (free) | iOS (free) Since Facebook lets you register with a phone number, if you decide a burner email address is too much trouble, you can always create a burner phone number. Like the email, this is a fake temporary number which allows you to register for and use Facebook while protecting your data. There are several excellent choices on both the Play Store and App Store which we've already reviewed. In our testing, we found Hushed (Android | iOS) offers the best features for a burner number, but in the case of remaining anonymous, any of the apps on our list will do.Don't Miss: 4 Best Burner Phone Number Apps for Android & iPhone

Step 2: Use Island to Isolate Facebook (Android Only)When you create a Facebook account on your Android device, Facebook will grab as much information it can access. We already learned that Facebook found a way to still access call history without alerting the user and without requiring a permission dialog. This is why, to protect yourself, you should completely isolate the Facebook app from your data. You can do that by using an app which takes advantage of Android's Managed Profile feature.Island is an early access app which creates a sandboxed environment where you can clone apps and isolate them from your data. While it can't eliminate all data leakage (specifically device-bound data such as SMS and IMEI), it does prohibit apps from accessing information such as your call logs, contacts, and your photos.Play Store Link: Island (Unreleased) (free) So first, download Island from the Play Store. Open the app and select "Accept" and "Accept & continue" on the next page. A new page will appear telling you Island is creating a work profile. This is the sandboxed environment.Once completed, the main page will appear, which will include a few apps that are already installed in the sandboxed environment. To move Facebook to this environment, first make sure it's installed on your phone like a normal app, then select the Mainland tab at the bottom of Island's main menu. Now, select the Facebook app, and right above the navigation buttons, choose the crossed square. This will prompt you to allow Island to install the app. Select "Settings" and activate the toggle to enable the installation of the cloned app in the sandboxed environment. Once completed, return to the Island tab to see the Facebook app. You will also two versions of the app in your app drawer, the normal app and one with a suitcase icon on top of it (the cloned app). Now uninstall the app on the "mainland" by navigating to the "App Info" page of the version which doesn't have a small suitcase icon on top of the icon (most launchers let you do this by dragging the icon to the top of your home screen, then dropping it on "App Info"). From there, simply tap "Uninstall" or "Disable." This will leave you with only the cloned app, which is isolated thanks to the sandboxed environment.

Step 3: Detach Yourself from the Official Facebook AppThis step is somewhat optional, but after seeing how much personal data the Facebook app can harvest from some devices, you'll probably want to ditch the official Facebook app altogether. The best way to do this is by using either the Facebook mobile site or a Facebook wrapper app.If you're running Android, we recommend an app called Metal. It's a Facebook wrapper meant to replace the official Facebook app, and among other things, it blocks ads and uses less power than the official app. While it might not provide foolproof security, Metal won't request or use sensitive device permissions like its official counterpart. If you hop over to Settings > Permissions after installing it, you'll see Metal has no permissions enabled. Like the official app, we recommend installing Metal within Island.Play Store Link: Metal for Facebook & Twitter (free) If you're on iOS and are missing the Metal experience, consider using the Facebook mobile site instead. While you won't get native security features, Safari does come packed with some privacy settings installed. Plus, Facebook's app will drain your battery — if nothing else, using the mobile site will extend your iPhone's lifespan.Don't download the Facebook app — go to Facebook.com instead.

Step 4: Install a VPNEven with totally false credentials, Facebook can still track your location when using its service. While there are location settings to disable, if you want to make sure Facebook can't track your new account, the best thing to do is install a VPN.A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, hides the ability for programs to determine your location based on your IP address. When using a VPN, you will be provided with a new IP address, and you can even choose its location. Additionally, it encrypts your data, preventing Facebook from accessing other apps' data running in the background or currently in use.Don't Miss: The 4 Best VPN Apps for Android & iPhone For Android users, you can take advantage of VyprVPN's "Connection Per app" feature. This feature allows you to control which app should use the VPN and which app shouldn't. You can configure it to always keep the VPN on when using Facebook, but disable it for other apps to speed up the connection.
Step 5: Delete & Disable Location History DataFacebook has a feature known as "Location History" which is a set of location logs it makes as you travel with the app. However, since your location can be used to identify who you are, for the purpose of anonymity, you should turn this off. Check out our guide on how this can be accomplished:Don't Miss: How to Delete & Disable Facebook's Location History Data

Step 6: Create a New Facebook AccountOnce you have taken the above steps into account, whether on iOS or Android, it's now time to create that new Facebook profile. Head over to Facebook.com, or open Metal on your secondary user space to get started.Tap "Create New Account," then enter a name, ideally something fake. Next, enter your burner number, or type in your burner email by tapping "Sign up with email" under Next. When finished, tap "Next." Next, enter a password, then tap "Sign Up." If prompted, you can choose whether or not to log in to Facebook with one tap, versus logging in with your name and password. Once you decide, Facebook will either send you an SMS code if you provided a phone number, or a verification email if you entered an email. Type the code here then tap "Confirm," or verify your account via Facebook's email. Welcome to your new, anonymous privacy-centered Facebook account. Now you can view groups, events and more without having to use your personal information. Once you configure these settings ...
Step 7: Change Your Facebook Privacy SettingsJust because you took the precautions in the steps above, that doesn't protect you from some privacy infringements on Facebook's part. Your account's privacy settings by default aren't perfect, and will only hurt your standing the longer you use your account. To nip these problems in the bud, before you do anything with your profile, configure these settings. While Facebook still has plenty of ways to abuse your privacy after the fact, changing these settings gives you some armor against them. In today's world, you just have to take what you can get.Don't Miss: All the Facebook Privacy Settings You Need to Check

Step 8: Block Hidden Permissions (Android — Root Required)While Android does allow users the ability to manage permissions accessible by apps, there are far more that apps such as Facebook can access to learn more about, and you can't do anything about these by default. For example, even with the location permission turn off, Facebook can still determine your approximate location using your network, something location permission doesn't cover. This is why you need App Ops.Play Store Link: App Ops (free) Originally a hidden feature in Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, App Ops let you adjust a large amount of permissions for individual apps, including those that Android doesn't have controls for by default. This app will also inform you when a permission will last granted. For most permissions, you either allow the app access, deny it, or only allow while in use, saving you battery and protecting your identity. For Facebook, we want to deny everything. The easiest way to use App Ops is to have a rooted device. However, it is possible to use without root but requires ADB commands. Once installed, open App Ops and select "Facebook." Then go line by line, selecting each entry and denying it access, hindering the app's ability to learn who you are. This article was produced during Gadget Hacks' special coverage on smartphone privacy and security. How To: Use the 'Print' Option to Create PDFs of Notes, Webpages & More on Your iPhone

Apple lets you save webpages as PDF files in iOS 10, but the only obvious way to do this is by using iBooks. The thing is, most people would probably rather save their PDFs to a service like Google Drive or Dropbox to make sharing a bit easier. Plus, iBooks isn't officially available for Windows or Android, so there are some cross-platform problems there, too.But as it turns out, iBooks isn't the only way. Thanks to a tip discovered by Redditor htmlarson, you can actually turn notes, webpages, and other documents into PDFs on your iPhone, then easily upload the file to any compatible service. The way it works is simple: When you want to convert a webpage or note into a PDF, simply tap the share sheets icon on your screen, then select "Print" from the popup. From here, there are two ways to proceed. If you have an iPhone with 3D Touch, press slightly on one of the thumbnails to enter preview mode, then press harder to enter the full version. If you don't have 3D Touch, pinch-to-zoom over the preview image, then the document will go full screen. At that point, it's just a matter of tapping the share sheets icon again to save the document as a PDF.Don't Miss: How to Annotate & Sign PDFs in Your iPad or iPhone's Mail App Select any compatible app from the list, then a high-resolution PDF file will be sent over to the second app, where you can upload and share it easily. This tip should work in any app that has the "Print" option in the share sheets menu, so you can convert almost anything into a shareable PDF in no time, even emails. That's all there is to it. Pretty simple, and much better than resorting to iBooks or some other complicated method.Don't Miss: How to Translate Webpages in Safari on Your iPhoneFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube Follow Apple Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+

How To: Add Functionality & Declutter the Android Lock Screen on Your Nexus 5

How To: Add Functionality & Declutter the Android Lock Screen on Your Nexus 5
The Android lock screen interface is an integral part of our everyday use. For those of us who use lock screen security, it functions as a barrier between the sensitive data contained within our smartphones and potential outside access. Even if you don't use a pattern or PIN to secure your phone, you still interact with the lock screen every time you go to use it.Developer Hamzah Malik has created an Xposed Module that will give this central aspect of Android some long-overdue love. It's called Lockscreen Tweakbox, and it allows you to add functionality and make some visual tweaks to the Android lock screen interface. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
RequirementsRooted Nexus 5 (other rooted Android devices may or may not work) Xposed Framework installed Unknown Sources enabled

Step 1: Install Lockscreen TweakboxTo get the module installed, head to the Download section of your Xposed Installer app and search Lockscreen Tweakbox. From here, tap the top result, then swipe over to the Versions tab and hit the Download button next to the most recent entry. Images via wonderhowto.com Android's installer interface should come up momentarily, so hit Install on the next screen. Images via wonderhowto.com When that's finished, you'll get a notification from Xposed telling you that the module isn't activated yet and a reboot is needed. Just tap the Activate and reboot button on this notification to take care of both things at once. Images via wonderhowto.com
Step 2: Modify Your Lock ScreenWhen your phone has finished booting back up, open the Lockscreen Tweakbox app from your app drawer.

Add Unlimited Unlocking AttemptsIf you use lock screen security and you don't like being locked out for 30 seconds after you've missed on 5 attempts, tick the box next to Unlimited Attempts. Images via wonderhowto.com

Hide the Alarm Icon or Emergency Call ButtonUse the Hide Alarm option if you don't want to see Android's Upcoming Alarm icon on your lock screen. Images via wonderhowto.com For users with lock screen security enabled, Hide Emergency will remove the Emergency Call button from your lock screen, but as stated in the app, use this option with caution—there's a reason it's there and painless to use, but then again, if you hand your phone to a child, they can easily make unintended 911 calls, which is never a good thing.

Make Your Wallpaper Different from the Home ScreenYou can change the background of your lock screen with either of the two options under the Background category. Tap Colour, and you'll be shown a menu that allows you to select a solid color as your lock screen background. Images via wonderhowto.com The Image option lets you choose any photo stored on your device to use as a lock screen background image. When you tap the entry, you'll be taken into your device's file chooser interface, where you can simply tap the picture you want to use. Images via wonderhowto.com

Access the Notification Tray & Show Clock in Status BarUnder the Statusbar category, Allow notifications lets users with lock screen security have access to their notification tray. Show Clock will show the time in the status bar area for both secured and unsecured lock screens. Images via wonderhowto.com

Step 3: Save Your WorkWhen you're satisfied with all of the changes you've made, tap the three-dot menu button in the top-right corner and select Reboot. At this point, Lockscreen Tweakbox will ask for Superuser access, so hit Grant on the next popup. Images via wonderhowto.com When you get back up, all of your lock screen tweaks will be in effect. (1) No tweaks applied, (2) Clock added to status bar, "Emergency Call" removed, (3) Notification tray on secure lock screen. Images via wonderhowto.com Which tweaks did you apply to your lock screen?
