Instagram 101: How to Create Polls to Get Questions Answered by Followers & Other Users
Whether it's for your company, your professional image, or just your personal account, making a poll on Instagram is a great way to reach out to followers, friends, family, and other users to measure their thoughts and opinions about any given topic. Instagram for Android and iOS makes it fun and simple to do so, offering the same tools to professional and personal users alike. While Instagram isn't the only social media platform to implement polling, it might just be the most creative when it comes down to it. Facebook and Twitter both feature polling, but Instagram's methods are unique. The only issue with Instagram's version is that you can only get answers to your questions via stories, ephemeral content of videos, pictures, stickers, and more that tells a "story" and expires after 24 hours, so don't expect to add a photo or video with a poll directly to your feed.Don't Miss: How to Add Animated GIFs to Your Instagram Stories Instagram has two poll stickers available for stories: "Poll" and "Emoji Slider." While both can gauge users' opinions on any given question, both behave quite differently. But both are simple once you know what to do; Instagram's customization makes it fun to create a unique poll for your profile or company.

Option 1: Regular Polls"Poll" is a more standard way to pose a question to your followers. With it, you can offer followers and users two responses to your question. By default, the responses are "Yes" and "No," however, you can change them to fit whatever question you ask. For example, if your question is "Do you root for the Red Sox or the Yankees?" you can easily replace the stock "Yes" and "No" options with "Red Sox" and "Yankees."

How to Conduct a Regular Instagram PollTake or upload a photo or video from the story camera. Next, activate the sticker drawer by tapping the smiley-face sticker button at the top of the display. Find and tap "Poll" to add a Poll to your story. You can start by typing a question you want to ask your audience. If your question is a yes-or-no question, you can leave the answers as they are. However, you can tap on each to write whatever you like, but you're limited to 24 characters in each box.Don't Miss: How to Add a Link to Your Instagram Story on Android & iOS Tap "Done" when finished to exit the editor. Now, you can drag the Poll around the display to position it, as well as pinch and pull to enlarge or shrink as you see fit. You can also drag the whole thing to the bottom of the display to the "Drag to Delete" trash can to delete your Poll (on iOS, it's just the trash can). When you're ready to share the Poll, tap the "+ Your Story" icon or "Send to" followed by "Share" next to Your Story. Note that while you can send polls as direct messages, the polls aren't interactive like they will be in your story, so you won't be able to get any answers that way.

Option 2: Emoji Slider PollsThe "Emoji Slider" offers a more creative approach to polling. Users drag an emoji on a slider to answer a scaled question, e.g., "How much do you like chocolate ice cream?" The further to the right, the stronger the answer. The further to the left, the weaker the answer (leaving the slider all the way to the left shows how little you care for chocolate ice cream).

How to Conduct an Emoji Slider Instagram PollAdding an Emoji Slider to your story is as simple as adding a Poll. Take or upload a photo or video from the story camera. Next, activate the sticker drawer by tapping the smiley-face sticker button at the top of the display. Finally, find and tap the slider icon with the "in love" emoji to add an Emoji Slider to your story. Just as with Polls, you can immediately add a question for your Emoji Slider. Once you begin typing, you can choose a color for your text from the three windows of options below the slider, as well as the color for the surrounding box by tapping the [A] at the top of the display.Once you're done typing, tap on the "in love" emoji to select you preferred emoji. Instagram only presents you with 15 options on iOS, but you can tap the (+) on the second window of options to choose from any emoji you'd like. Oddly enough, Android offers you more options here, but does not allow you to select from all emojis — what you see is what you get.Don't Miss: Turn Off Instagram Stories from Brands & Followed Hashtags It's also worth noting that the emojis will appear different to users on iOS and Android, regardless of which device created the Emoji Slider. They'll even look different between Android devices, as certain OEMs use their own emojis. Keep that in mind when creating this poll, and think about how it will appear on devices unlike yours. To make sure the emoji you've chosen is right for you, you can try moving it through the slider, just as a follower or user would. When finished, tap "Done," and position the slider as you see fit. Just as with the Poll, you can also delete this item by dragging it to the trash can at the bottom of the display. When you're ready to share the Poll, tap the "+ Your Story" icon or "Send to" followed by "Share" next to Your Story. Note that while you can send polls as direct messages, the polls aren't interactive like they will be in your story, so you won't be able to get any answers that way.

How to View Your ResultsA poll is only as good as its results. Luckily, Instagram makes checking your results as easy as checking your story's view count. To do so, simply tap on your story, then tap the view count icon in the bottom-left corner of the story with the poll or polls. In addition to your view count, Instagram will present you with the results of your poll. For the standard Poll, you will see the percentage of users who answered which question on the story itself. Instagram does not provide that information on the results page. Here, you will only see how many voters there were and what each voter answered with. You can also tap "Share Results" to launch a new story with the results of your Poll replacing the original. For Emoji Sliders, you will only see the average answer on the story itself if you've personally answered the poll. That information will be provided on the results page, which will include the average answer, the number of responders, and what each follower or user answered with. Poll results (left) vs. Emoji Slider results (right). That's all there is to polling with Instagram. Whether you choose to use the Poll, Emoji Slider, or both, your followers will have fun answering your questions. Just make sure to use their data for good.Don't Miss: How to Upload Live Photos As Instagram Videos & StoriesFollow Gadget Hacks on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: The Free Way to Save iPhone Voicemails on Your Mac

How To: The Free Way to Save iPhone Voicemails on Your Mac
Voicemails are like chores for me. I have to listen to them, but never really feel like doing it. When I finally do, most of them get deleted right away, but every so often they'll be one I save and listen to over and over again, whether it's a cute birthday wish from grandma or a hilarious joke from my friend. When you come across a voicemail that you want to keep forever, transferring it over to your computer makes total sense, but it's not a simple task to do if you have an iPhone. While there are apps like iExplorer and PhoneView, they cost too much to use just for a voicemail here and there.Instead of handing down any cash, I'm going to show you how to extract all of the voicemails on your iPhone to your computer and convert them into shareable files, all thanks to a few Terminal commands.Don't worry, the process might sound tedious, but it's straightforward and simple enough to understand as long as you follow the steps below.

Step 1: Back Up Your iPhoneIf you want the voicemails from the iPhone you're currently using, you'll need to backup your device through iTunes—not via iCloud. Do so by connecting your iPhone to your computer, opening iTunes, and clicking on Back Up Now from your iPhone's Summary page. If you want to pull voicemails from an older backup, skip directly to Step 2.

Step 2: Find the Backup FolderAfter the backup is complete, you'll need to find the folder where the iPhone backup is stored.Open Finder. Press and hold down the Option key. Click Go in the menu bar. Select Library. Go to Application Support -> MobileSync -> Backup. All of your iTunes backups will be in the Backup folder. Show all of your items in List View so that you can see the date for each backup. That way you'll find your most recent backup or older ones that you want to pull voicemails from.

Step 3: Copy & Rename the Backup Folder, Create iOSVoicemails FolderSince you don't want to mess up your backup (for future purposes), we're going to make a copy of the folder and paste it onto your desktop. Simply right-click on the backup folder and select Copy "Backup Folder Name". Now right-click on an empty space on your desktop and select Paste Item. Since these backups are pretty large, it might take a few seconds for the folder to copy over to your desktop.Rename the folder to something easier than those mess of letters and numbers by right-clicking on the folder, selecting Get Info and entering a name into the Name & Extension: box. Let's use iOSBackup as the name, to make things simple. Also, create a folder called iOSVoicemails on your desktop—this is where your voicemails will be saved.

Step 4: Create Script on Your DesktopIn a previous version of this guide, we had a much more complicated way of going about the process of extracting the voicemails from your backup. Thanks to WonderHowTo user Lauren Pattison, the process is now much more simple, thanks to a nifty script she wrote and provided to us.Open Terminal and enter the following:cd DesktopHit enter. This is to to set the directory. Now you're going to create the script by entering:vim voicemailscript.shAgain, hit enter. Now type:iThis will allow you to insert text. Now type the following text into Terminal, indentations and all. You can copy it here from the file on Pastebin, then paste into Terminal to make things easier. After pasting the text, hit the escape key on your keyboard and type in::wqAnd hit enter.

Step 5: Make Script Executable, Run ItStill in Terminal, type in:chmod a=r+w+x voicemailscript.shHit enter. This will make the script executable. Finally, type in:./voicemailscript.shAnd hit enter one more time, which will run the script. A list of all your voicemails will show up in Terminal.

Step 6: Listen to Voicemails, Convert Them to .M4AIn the iOSVoicemails folder on your desktop, you'll find all of the voicemails from your backup. When you find the voicemails that you want to keep/share, open them in QuickTime Player, go to File, click on Export and select Audio only.... Now press Save and your voicemail will be saved in an .m4a file that you can share and upload on the internet. And that's all there is to it.

How To: Get Google Home Reminders on Your iPhone So You Never Forget an Important Task
Smart home speakers, such as Google Home and Apple HomePod, are must-have accessories if you're trying to turn your home into a smart home. While HomePod is made to be used with the Apple ecosystem, the less-expensive Google Home can also be used with your iPhone — in more ways than you'd think. One thing you can do is set up your Google Home smart home speaker to relay information to your iPhone. The most useful example for this would be reminders.Say you're heading out the door but you know you need gas in your car. You can tell Google Home to remind you in 15 minutes to get gas, and the reminder notification will show on your iPhone while you're out so you don't forget. You can even set location-based reminders. For example, if you need to pick up milk at Whole Foods, you can ask Google Home to remind you to get milk at the grocery store.Don't Miss: How to Set Up Google Assistant Voice Command Shortcuts In order to get this working on your iPhone, you'll need to do a little setup. While it pretty much just works if you have a phone running stock Android, that's not the case for iOS users, but it's easy enough to get up and running. Plus, this will work no matter what Google Home product you have — Google Home, Google Home Mini, Google Home Max, or Google Home Hub.

Step 1: Log in to the Google Assistant AppTo get Google Home reminders, you need to download the Google Assistant app. It's available on iPhones running iOS 10 or later. Once installed, log in to the same Google account associated with the Google Home device you're using. If you are already logged into the account with another Google app like Gmail or YouTube, the app will ask you to log into this account without needing a password.App Store Link: Google Assistant (free)

Step 2: Give It Permission to Send NotificationsAs soon as you log in to the proper account, the Google Assistant will ask you to allow it to send you notifications. Tap "Allow," otherwise your Google Home won't be able to send you alerts on your iPhone. If you didn't get the prompt, or if you already had Assistant installed and want to make sure that alerts are working, first make sure the app is updated. Next, tap your profile icon in the top right, then the "Assistant" tab. Select your device's name at the bottom under Assistant devices, then make sure "Notifications" is toggled on. If not, toggle it on, hit "OK" on the pop-up, then tap the "Allow" button. As you can see on your device's settings page, it says that alarms and timers will be heard on your iPhone regardless if the settings is on or off, but in our experience, it definitely needs to be on.
Step 3: Set Some Google Home RemindersWith the Google Assistant app set up correctly, you can now begin asking your Google Home speaker to remind you to complete tasks. It can be as simple as saying "Hey Google, remind me to gas up my car in 15 minutes." It's worth noting that Google Home can only remind you of events that are taking place at least three minutes in advance — anything shorter and it will say it can't remind you.For reminders, there are only two types you can set with Google Home, in general: time-based and location-based. And while it would be cool, you can't yet set a reminder with both a time and location, only one or the other.Buy Google Home: Best Buy | Google | WalmartWhen it comes to time, if you say "tomorrow" in your command, you'll get the notification the next day only if it's currently after 5 a.m. local time; If you set it at, say, 4:48 a.m., you'll get an alert that same day. Also, you can specify a day and time, not just one or the other. And you can even set a recurring reminder by specifying "every day" or something like "every Tuesday."As for location-based reminders, you can use your home or work address, a specific address, a specific place or business, and even business categories such as grocery store, mall, restaurant, pet store, and salon.

Step 4: Get Those Notifications on Your iPhoneIt may take a reminder or two before any reminder notifications begin coming through on your iPhone, so keep that in mind. Once one pops up on your iPhone's display, you shouldn't have any issues going forward. If nothing happens, go back to Step 2 to make sure notifications are turned on.To see all of the reminders you've set with Google Home, within the Google Assistant app, tap on your profile icon in the top right. Open the "Services" tab, then tap on "Reminders." Here, you'll see all of the reminders you've set with your Google Home or in the Google Assistant app directly. You can also set more reminders here by tapping on the plus (+) icon. You can also use the mic in the Google Assistant app to ask the Assistant "What are my reminders?" When it comes to editing a reminder, you'll need to have the Google Calendar app installed, since you can only do so from there. An unexpected side effect of using software from multiple companies like Google and Apple is that they don't always interact as easily as they do with their own products. Setting a reminder on Google Home will just show up on an Android device. Vice versa with the HomePod and iPhone. But that's not the world we live in; Some of us use Google and Apple products, and though it may take a few steps, we can get these products to interact with each other quite well.Don't Miss: 70 Easter Eggs & Interesting Voice Commands for Google AssistantFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: Install the Xposed Framework on Your Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge
Everyone's favorite Android modding tool is finally available for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Thanks to some hard work by Wanam and a few other developers, we can now install the Xposed Framework on Samsung's latest mid-sized flagship phones. But there are a few stipulations—most notably, this new version of Xposed only works with deodexed firmware. To put it simply, this means that you cannot install Xposed on top of the stock firmware for the Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge, and really, your easiest option would be to install a custom ROM first. But I'll get into all of that in more detail below, so let's go ahead and get started, shall we?
RequirementsRooted Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge running Android 5.1.1 Custom recovery or Flashfire installed Deodexed firmware
Before You BeginOkay, so about that "deodexed firmware" requirement. Basically, the stock firmware on all variants of the Galaxy S6 contains a set of odex files that help speed up the launching of apps on your phone. Since Xposed modifies the Android Runtime libraries that these odex files rely on, the two simply cannot coexist. What this all boils down to, essentially, is that you'll need to be running a deodexed custom ROM to use the Xposed Framework on your Galaxy S6. So if that means you're now in the market for a new custom ROM, I'd suggest trying the XstreStoLite ROM. It's available for most variants of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, plus it's basically a deodexed, slimmed down, highly-customizeable version of the stock firmware. But before you do any of this, know that installing either a custom ROM or the Xposed Framework will trip the KNOX counter on your device. So don't bother if you're trying to hold onto your manufacturer's warranty or want to use the soon-to-be-launched Samsung Pay service.

Step 1: Download the Xposed Framework & Installer FilesFirst up, there are two files that you'll need to download when installing Xposed. One is the Xposed Framework, which is a flashable ZIP that modifies your system, and the other is the Xposed Installer, which is an app that allows you to download and manage Xposed modules. So point your device's web browser to each of the following links to begin.Xposed Framework for Galaxy S6 devices Xposed Installer Once the downloads have finished, tap the Download Complete notification for the XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk file. From the next screen, press "Install," then you'll be just about ready to flash the Xposed Framework.

Step 2: Flash the Xposed FrameworkNext, either boot your device into custom recovery, or open your Flashfire app. If you're using custom recovery for this part, simply tap the "Install" button, then navigate to your device's Download folder. From here, select the Xposed-v71-b2-sdk22-tw-arm64.zip file, then swipe the slider at the bottom of the screen. When the process has finished, tap the "Reboot System" button to wrap things up. If you're using Flashfire instead, tap the + button at the bottom of the screen, then select the "Flash ZIP or OTA" option. From here, navigate to your Download folder and select the Xposed-v71-b2-sdk22-tw-arm64.zip file, then tap the "Flash" button in Flashfire's main menu. Either way you went about flashing the Xposed Framework, your phone will take longer than normal to finish rebooting, but this is nothing to worry about. When you get back up, open the Xposed Installer app and head to the Framework section, then look for green text at the top of the screen that says "version 71 is active" to verify that everything went off without a hitch. For the time being, most modules that alter the system UI are not working, but almost all modules that target a specific app are functioning properly. For instance, YouTube AdAway works like a charm, but Wanam Xposed still needs an update before it will be fully functional on the Galaxy S6.What modules have you found to be working so far? Let us know in the comment section below, or drop us a line on Android Hacks' Facebook or Twitter, or Gadget Hacks' Facebook, Google+, or Twitter.

News: You Can Get a OnePlus 7 Pro with INSANE Specs for the Price of the XR or S10e

News: You Can Get a OnePlus 7 Pro with INSANE Specs for the Price of the XR or S10e
OnePlus unveiled its latest device — the OnePlus 7 Pro — Tuesday, May 14. Usually, the company touts a device with impressive specs, build quality, and price, all without sacrificing too much. This time around, however, OnePlus decided to include a Pro device without compromise, while retaining those core values, making the 7 Pro highly competitive against the "low end" phones of their competitors (the iPhone XR and Samsung S10e).Now, not all OnePlus 7 Pros are created equal. The device starts at $669, well below that $749 price point for the XR and S10e.At that low price, you get a phone with pretty great specs: A 1440p 90 Hz edge-to-edge display, retractable selfie camera, 48 MP primary camera as part of the new triple-camera system, 2.84 GHz Snapdragon 855 with the Adreno 640 GPU, 4,000 mAh battery, and an upgraded in-display fingerprint sensor, just to name some highlights. The base model 7 Pro comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Not too shabby, especially for the price. By upping the price to $699, and you get 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of internal storage. However, if you give OnePlus the full $749, you'll find your money well spent. That same 256 GB of storage, plus an insane 12 GB of RAM.Just for comparison, at $749, Samsung will hand you an S10e with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, with a 1080p display, 12 MP primary shooter, 2.73 GHz Snapdragon 855 with the Adreno 640 GPU, and a 3,100 mAh battery. Apple comes in with just 64 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM — although iOS requires much less RAM than Android — an 828p display, 12 MP primary shooter, the Apple A12 bionic with Apple's custom GPU, and a 2,942 mAh battery. While all three phones have their pros and cons in the spec department, you can't get around the fact that OnePlus has packed an insane amount of technology and high-level specs into a price point that other major brands seem to prescribe to their "low-end" flagships. The point here isn't that the S10e or XR are bad phones. The point is that OnePlus just wiped the value floor with both of them.Buy the OnePlus 7 Pro.Don't Miss: Everything You Need to Know About the OnePlus 7 ProFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Reddit, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

How To: Change Resolution & Bit Rate in Filmic Pro for High-Quality Video Up to 4K at 100 Mbps

How To: Change Resolution & Bit Rate in Filmic Pro for High-Quality Video Up to 4K at 100 Mbps

Filmic Pro harnesses the full native power of your iPhone or Android phone — and then some. If your smartphone shoots in 4K resolution, Filmic Pro will let you choose that resolution. However, it's not all about the pixels — bit rate is an essential factor in determining the overall quality of your 720p, 1080p, or 4K video, something Filmic Pro gives you full control over.
ResolutionIf you own a smartphone or work with any visual medium, you likely know what resolution is. It's the measurement of pixels visible on the display, measured by width times height. If you're shooting at 1080p, or 1920 × 1080 progressive scan, it'll play on any screen capable of viewing it, though, it may downscale (for a standard definition display) or upscale the resolution (for a 4K display) as needed.
Bit RateThis is a little trickier. To explain briefly, the bit rate of a video is the quality of the footage itself. While resolution involves the number of pixels in the image, during the video encoding process, the bit rate determines the number of bits processed per second. Generally speaking, the more bits per second, the higher quality the video when being played, with better image quality, detail, and color information. The bit rate is measured in Mbps, the acronym for megabits per second. Every byte has 8 bits, so if a video is recording at 1 MB per second (megabyte per second), that'd be 8 Mbps, or 8 million bits per second. Naturally, something with a higher bitrate will have a larger file size than something with a smaller one. While most smartphones let you choose between resolution options in stock camera apps, the majority will not let you change the bit rate of the footage.

Changing Resolution & Bit RateChanging both video resolution and bit rate in Filmic Pro is quite simple. First, tap the settings cog in the bottom right. Next, tap "Resolution." Here, you'll find your resolution and bit rate options, directly below the "Crop Source to Overlay" toggle. Resolution is on top, with bit rate underneath it. Tap the right arrows to increase the resolution and bit rate and the left arrows to decrease them. Depending on your specific phone model and whether or not you're shooting with the front-facing selfie camera or the main rear camera, you will find different resolution options here. Filmic Pro's default settings for resolution is 1080p in 16x9 aspect ratio. Some custom options available on your phone may include:SD 540p HD 720p HD 1080p 2K 1152p 3K 1836p 4K 2160p Bit rate options, however, should be the same for all: "Economy," the lowest quality; "Standard" (Android) or "Apple Standard" (iOS), the standard bit rate your stock camera uses; "FiLMiC Quality," a higher bit rate than your phone's standard; and "FiLMiC Extreme" the highest bit rate you can achieve. By default, Filmic Pro uses the "FiLMiC Quality" encoding.FiLMiC Extreme: The target bit rate will be 100 Mbps for 2K, 3K, and 4K resolution. At 1080p, it will be 50 Mbps. FiLMiC Quality: The target bit rate will be 64 Mbps for 2K, 3K, and 4K resolution, and 32 Mbps for 1080p. Standard: The target bit rate will be the same data rate as you get with your native camera, based on the resolution chosen. Economy: The target bit rate will be fairly low, and it should only be used when there is very little storage space or if your looking to create a low-res effect. Wondering why these are target bit rates? Filmic Pro provides the following.Note: Our proprietary clip writer code uses functionality to sample the quality from the incoming video feed and automatically scale the data rate based on 'need'. When you set a bitrate in FiLMiC Pro you are establishing a target for the camera framework. Depending on the quality of the feed you may see final bit rates that are higher or lower than this target in order to ensure quality. In doing this we can provide for a high quality while also keeping the video file size as low as possible.Again, it's important to keep in mind that the higher your resolution and bit rate, the larger your video size is going to be. If you don't need to be conservative with your storage, go for bold and max out these settings. However, if you're running low on space, you might be better off reducing these options. A 720p, the "Economy" bit rate is going to be significantly smaller than a 4K, "FiLMiC Extreme" file. This article was produced during Gadget Hacks' special coverage on smartphone-based video creator tips for filming and editing. How To: Unlock the Hidden Weather Lock Screen Widget in iOS 12 on Your iPhone

How To: Unlock the Hidden Weather Lock Screen Widget in iOS 12 on Your iPhone

There are a lot of things that make iOS great, but lock screen widgets are not among them. If you want more information on your lock screen other than the date, time, and notifications without having to swipe to a sidebar of widgets, you'd normally look toward Android. However, iOS 12 aims to shake that up a bit with a secret Weather widget for the lock screen — not for the Today view. This widget isn't something Apple publicized much during the keynote presentation at WWDC 2018 or Apple's "Gather Round" event, but you can clearly see it on the screen of an iPhone X when Craig Federighi was talking about gently easing into notifications with Do Not Disturb. If you're currently running iOS 12 and want this widget to show up on your iPhone pronto, there really isn't much to it. The only downside is that you won't be able to see this Weather widget all the time.As you could probably guess, it's a part of the Do Not Disturb feature, specifically its "Bedtime Mode." So, you'll only be able to view the widget after a Do Not Disturb session has ended and the iPhone remains locked. Once it's unlocked, the widget will disappear until the end of the next Do Not Disturb cycle.Don't Miss: 100+ Cool New iOS 12 Features You Didn't Know About for iPhone

Step 1: Set Weather Access to 'Always'Because of how the Weather widget works, it requires that the Weather app be allowed to access your location at all times. If you have it set to "While Using the App" or "Never," the Weather widget will never appear on the lock screen. To make sure it'll work, open the Settings app. Tap "Privacy," then "Location Services" (you can also find this menu by searching for it from the main Settings page). Select "Weather" near the bottom, then ensure "Always" is checked.

Step 2: Set Up a Do Not Disturb TimeSince the widget is only accessible through Bedtime Mode in Do Not Disturb, you'll need to schedule a timeframe for Do Not Disturb and make sure "Bedtime Mode" is toggled on. Once this time ends, the weather widget will appear on your display, with a welcoming wake-up message such as "Good Morning" or "Good Afternoon."More Info: Use Bedtime Mode to Keep Alerts from Distracting You at Night Typically, you'd schedule the time based on when you wake up. However, if you'd like to see the Weather widget right now on your lock screen, set the end time for Do Not Disturb to just one minute past the current time, then lock your iPhone. When you wake your iPhone (not unlock it), the Weather widget should appear on the lock screen. Once you unlock your iPhone, the widget will disappear. If you don't really care about waking up to a Weather widget or even using Do Not Disturb at all but want to see it during another time of the day, you can just set it for one minute with "Bedtime Mode" on. This way, you're only silencing notifications for 1 minute, which I'm sure is enough for all of you to go without alerts. (We tested zero minutes and that wouldn't work.)For example, you'd like to see what the weather is like 30 minutes or so before your afternoon jog or stroll through the neighborhood, so you set Do Not Disturb for, say, 2:00–2:01 p.m., with "Bedtime Mode" selected. Then, when you pick up your iPhone in between the end of the Do Not Disturb time and, say, your 2:30 p.m. walk or jog, you'll see exactly what the weather is like before you head outside.

Step 3: Check Out the Widget in ActionAll that's left to do is wake up (if you set it for your actual wake-up time, that is) to your Weather widget! The first time you wake up your iPhone's screen outside of the Do Not Disturb time frame, you'll be greeted by the Weather widget, as well as a "Good [Time of Day/Night]" message. Images by Brian Lang/Gadget Hacks Of course, once you unlock your iPhone, the widget will disappear until the next scheduled DND time ends. Also, tapping on the widget makes it disappear. Even worse, waking but not unlocking the iPhone, then letting the display go dark again will make it vanish too. So really, you may not even see it sometimes because it comes and goes so quickly.Hopefully, Apple implements a more permanent Weather widget for the lock screen, but until then, we'll simply keep resetting our Do Not Disturb times based on when we want to see the weather forecast.Don't Miss: 100+ Cool New iOS 12 Features You Didn't Know AboutFollow Gadget Hacks on Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, and Flipboard Sign up for Gadget Hacks' daily newsletter or weekly Android and iOS updates Follow WonderHowTo on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flipboard

Spotify 101: How to Make Your Music Sound Better by Using an Equalizer

Spotify 101: How to Make Your Music Sound Better by Using an Equalizer
You may not know this, but the Spotify app will let you add a bit of personal touch to all the music you stream. Unlike many other music streaming services, Spotify actually has fantastic equalizer support on both iOS and Android. While Spotify's music library already sounds pretty damn good when you're streaming in High or Extreme quality, you may not be perfectly satisfied with the distribution of highs and lows across the treble and bass spectrum. Thanks to Spotify's equalizer support, however, the treble and bass can be tuned to your liking relatively easily. Let's take a look at how it works on iPhone and Android.Don't Miss: Spotify 101: How to Improve Sound Quality for Streaming & Downloaded Music

Method 1: Using the Equalizer on iOSIf you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, start off by opening the Spotify app and tapping on the "Library" icon in the lower-right corner. Then tap on the "Settings" gear in the top-right corner of the screen. Next, tap on "Playback" followed by "Equaliser." You'll see the built-in Spotify equalizer popup. It comes with a bunch of presets already tuned to the more popular genres of music. If you want to use your own settings, you can do so by tapping on any of the white dots and dragging up or down. When you're done, just make sure the "Equaliser" switch is turned on, then you'll immediately notice the difference when playing any music in the Spotify app.

Method 2: Using the Equalizer on AndroidIf you have an Android device, the first step is the same as on iOS. Launch the Spotify app and tap on the "Library" icon, then press the settings gear in the top-right corner. Once you're in the app settings, scroll down to the "Music Quality" section and then tap on "Equalizer." You'll get a warning popup, but go ahead and tick the "Don't show this again" checkbox because we really don't need to see that again.Next, if your phone comes with a system-wide equalizer, that will pop up and let you adjust sound quality. Depending on your Android version and OEM, it'll probably vary in terms of configurability and style. But if your phone does not come with a built-in equalizer, Spotify will display its own equalizer at this point. Next, whether you see the Spotify equalizer or your phone's built-in equalizer, simply make sure the feature itself is set to "On," then use the presets or adjust the bars manually. Once you've made your adjustments, all songs you play in Spotify will be using your new equalizer preset.
A Word of AdviceIf you have an Android device, you should know that Spotify is compatible with third-party equalizers which generally provide a much wider range of features. And if your Android device is rooted, you can gain borderline eargasm quality with ViPER4Android, which completely restructures and modifies the audio signal being sent to your headphones. If you have any questions or comments, be sure to share them in the section below. This is a nice project that you can continue to work on and modify as you learn more Arduino projects. The Instructable linked below goes through the complete build for the Bluetooth-enabled robot seen in the first half of the video. As long as you have a 3D printer, this project is really easy to do and the electronic parts cost only around $30-$35. If you try to make the chassis with a 3D printing services, it will cost more than buying your own 3D printer and supplies, so I suggest against it.It takes in total about 35 hours to 3D print, but can be assembled and programmed in around 30 minutes. It requires only two screwdrivers to build and does not require any soldering. It can be controlled by laptop or Android phone. To expand beyond the Bluetooth portion and get more features to your robot, you can try to add music or a voice, get weather forecasts, get text message alerts when motion is detected, and more.

3D Printed & Expandable Robot for Arduino with Android Control
I wanted to design this thing to be inexpensive and use common parts, so this robot uses 9V batteries currently. They run out pretty quickly with a lot of use, so I will probably end up designing a new piece that allows for the use of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and an Adafruit power booster.
