We live in a time where privacy is rare and our files can be easily accessed by just about anyone. Having your phone protected by a passcode is great, but if someone figures it out, they can easily access anything on your phone.That may not be a big problem for many of us, but if you keep sensitive, revealing, or risqué data on your Android device, it can become an issue. This is where Andrognito comes in.Developed by CODEX, Andrognito adds a three-layer encryption to any file you select. It can hide anything from images to apps, and can even create a dummy vault to fool intruders into thinking they found the good stuff.You won't need to be rooted for this to work, just be sure you are running Android 4.0 or higher on your phone or tablet. Step 1: Install AndrognitoAndrognito BETA - Hide Files is a free app that can be downloaded directly from the Google Play Store. Once you get it installed, I'll show you how to get it up and running on your device.

Step 2: Configure the AppThe first time you run Andrognito, you will need to register by inputting your name and a 4-digit PIN. After that has been set up, you'll have a few options to choose for your security question, which will be used in case you ever forget your PIN. To change any of these security parameters, just head to Settings from the three-bar menu button on the top left.

Step 3: Add Files to ProtectFiles can be added to the vault by tapping the + icon on the top right, then long-pressing any file you want. To add an entire folder or directory, all you have to do is tap the + icon on the bottom of the screen and Andrognito will add a check mark to every file. After completing your selections, tap the lock icon to add the encryption to your files. After the files have been added to your vault, they will no longer be accessible from any other file explorer.

Step 4: Utilize Stealth ModeStealth Mode gives you a fake vault that can hold nonsense files to trick intruders, and can be activated through the Settings. The stealth vault has a completely different PIN than your regular vault, adding another line of defense to protect your data. Andrognito does not populate the fake vault itself, so feel free to add your own collection of troll files to make your nosey friends regret trying to invade your privacy. You can distinguish between vaults by looking at the toast notification that pops up after logging in—:-) for the real vault, ;-) for the fake vault.
Remove Encryption & Uninstall AndrognitoTo remove the encryption from a file, all you have to do is long-press it and tap the unlock icon. If you ever want to uninstall Andrognito, you will first need to remove all the files from the vault, then uninstall just like any other app.With Andrognito, your files can stay safe even if your phone has been compromised. A Smoother Contact ListWhen you open the app, it will initially show you your most recent and favorite contacts. Slide to the right to view your entire contact list. Scrolling through contacts can be done in any number of ways. You can tap a letter to jump through the alphabet, shuffle through contact cards by either sliding through them or sliding in a circular motion over the letters, or you can slide down on the screen and begin typing a contact's name. And much like when you receive a call, once you've selected the contact, you can easily text, email, call, or set up a meeting. And again, your history with that contact is available with an upward swipe from the bottom of the screen. While Ready may not be technically fully functional, even as a beta, it looks and functions much better than the stock Contacts app on the Galaxy S4. It's minimal, simple, and sexy as hell, so go give it a try.

Sure, you can download themes for a third-party launcher, but themes are launcher specific. They will not work for launchers they weren't designed for.Today, I'll show you how to get any theme working on your Nexus 7 tablet using a special app called Icon Themer by Android developer ruqqq. Step 1: Make Sure You're RootedYou'll need to be rooted, so be sure to check out my guide on rooting the Nexus 7 if you're not already.

Step 2: Check Unknown SourcesBe sure you have Unknown Sources enabled in Settings -> Security -> Device Administration before you install anything.

Step 3: Get XposedYou need to install a framework for Icon Themer to latch onto to function, and for this, we'll be using the Xposed Framework by rovo89 to mod Android without any ROM flashing. Xposed Framework was designed to apply mods to Android without the mess and permanence of flashing.Download and install the Xposed Installer 2.14 (APK) using this link. Launch the Xposed Installer and tap the button for Install/Update. Wait until you see Done to be sure it's installed and updated. Reboot your tablet afterwards.

Step 4: Installing Icon ThemerDownload and install Icon Themer using this link. Make sure to click on the newest APK version.

After You First Open Up FineScanner...When you first open it up, you'll see a required confirmation popup, asking you to allow FineScanner to collect your user data (name, email, etc.) in order to receive "further enhancements". I don't like apps gathering my information, especially single-purpose apps like this, so I tapped disable. If you accidentally tap OK, not to worry, you can disable it later in the settings. After getting through the start screen, you can begin taking pictures of the text or images you want to scan. Use flash for clarity, as well as the three-shot option, which will take three quick photos in succession and let the application select which one looks best.

With Signal's class-leading end-to-end encryption, you can be sure your messages will remain secure as they travel to the recipient. However, once the message arrives, its privacy is completely dependent on the receiver, who could share it anywhere if they wanted. To patch this vulnerability, Signal added disappearing messaging.With disappearing messages, any text you send will expire after a pre-specified period of time. The recipient will be alerted to this timer, which will not begin until they have viewed the message. Once expired, the message is deleted from all devices (although screenshots are possible). Ultimately, it's one of the few ways that you can still send truly private messages.

Step 1: Make Sure Both Parties Are on SignalDisappearing messaging requires that both parties in the conversation are Signal users. An easy way to tell is by selecting a contact to begin messaging. There should be phone icon to the right of their name. If the contact is a Signal user, the phone should have a small padlock above it which indicates secure calling is available — therefore, they must be a Signal user.

Step 2: Turn on Disappearing MessagingNext, open a conversation (either a previous one or a new one). From this point, the process is slightly different depending on whether you're using Android or an iPhone. For iOS users, select the recipient's number or name (where it says "Tap here for settings"). Enable the toggle next to "Disappearing Messages" and adjust the slider to a duration of your choosing. When done correctly, an hourglass will appear between the number (or name) and the phone icon. For Android users, tap the menu button in the top-right corner of any conversation and choose "Disappearing messages." Using the pop-up menu, scroll up to select the desired duration. When done correctly, a stopwatch will appear between the number and the phone icon in your conversation thread.

Step 3: Send a Disappearing MessageOnce enabled, send a message as normal. When the message is sent, the other person will receive a message indicating that the message will disappear after the predetermined duration. In addition, an hourglass will appear next to your message which will deplete at a rate matching the assigned duration. Once it depletes, the message will vanish. As previously mentioned, the message must be opened to begin the timer. Therefore, if you receive a notification but don't read the message until later, it will not disappear as long as you didn't open the message in the app. In addition, if Screen Security is disabled, the user will be able to take a screenshot of the message, preserving it. However, by default Screen Security is enabled, so this won't be possible in most cases.With Disappearing messages, you don't have to worry about a private message you send being shown to other people. No, you should probably not turn off Amber, emergency, and public safety alerts on your iPhone. These government notifications are used to warn you about imminent natural disasters, active shooters, and terrorist attacks. More frequently, they ask for your help with child abductions. The alerts save lives, but it's still up to you whether you want to get them or not.Emergency and government alerts pushed out to your iPhone can be loud and abrasive, and that's to make sure they get your attention, but those overzealous notifications is a legitimate reason to want to disable them for good.But before going any further, let me reiterate: You should keep emergency and government alerts on. Who knows when your life, or the lives of your friends and family, may depend on them. Groups like FEMA, the National Weather Service, the Department of Homeland Security, and local government agencies send out these alerts via the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). These alerts are for very serious (and local to you) child-abduction cases. Emergency: These alerts are for possible emergencies such as extreme weather conditions. Public Safety: These alerts involve imminent threats to safety or life. If you've never seen an alert, they look similar to other notifications you receive on your iPhone, except they're accompanied by a loud sound, even if you're on silent. Below are a couple of examples of government alerts in the United States (left) and Canada (right).Note that, at this time, there is no way to disable mandatory Presidential alerts, but anything via IPAWS, whether from the Emergency Alert System (EAS), National Warning System (NAWAS), Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), or NOAA Weather Radio, can be disabled. All alerts are sent via IPAWS to participating carriers who push them out from cell towers to mobile devices.
