Dealing with Buggy SoftwareThe first thing you can try is simply force-closing the Messages app and opening it back up. If that didn't do the trick, then try restarting your iPhone. To do that, just press and hold the Side or Top button (aka the Sleep/Wake or Power button) for a few seconds, then use the slider that pops up to turn the iPhone off. Wait until it's powered down, then power it back up. On the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, just hold down the Side button with the Volume Down button for ten seconds until the Apple logo appears. Option #1: Use Siri to Reply to the SenderUse Siri to send a text message to the person that sent you the malicious text message. Just bring up Siri, say "View messages" or "Read unread text messages," then respond "Yes" when Siri asks if you would like to reply to the malicious text and send them anything.Using this method, you'll be able to not only respond to contacts in your iPhone but also random phone numbers. As soon as they receive the regular text you sent using Siri, you'll be able to access Messages. This will also allow the sender of the malicious text to go into their Messages app since they're also unable to access their text messages.

Option #2: Send a Picture from the Photos AppFrom the Photos app, text message a picture or video to the person that sent you the malicious text message. Once they receive the photo, you and the sender will be able to go back into the Messages app.

Option #3: Send a Regular Text MessageSend a regular text message to the person that sent you the malicious text message. While you won't be able to access all your messages, sometimes you'll be able to access the thread of the person that sent the malicious text (or your own thread, if you were the sender). In this case, sending a regular text message to that person will fix your crashing issue, as well as theirs.

Option #4: Delete the Message ThreadDelete the thread of the person that sent you the malicious text message, if you're able to access it. Or delete the entire thread of that you started (if you sent the attack to them). This will fix your crashing issue, as well as theirs.

How to Prevent Your iPhone from CrashingIf none of your shitty friends have done this to you (yet), you can take steps to prevent your iPhone from crashing. One way to do this is by disabling text messages on the lock screen, which you can do by going to Settings –> Notifications –> Messages, then turning off the "Show on Lock Screen" setting. I'm a textaholic, as I've said many times before, but even textaholics forget to respond sometimes. When I'm watching a YouTube clip or devouring delicious snacks in Candy Crush Saga, I'll often ignore incoming texts and forget to respond later.Some of this forgetfulness could be blamed on the need to exit the app I'm currently in to respond to text messages. If it's a response as simple as "yes" that I need to give, it's more practical and convenient to do it while I'm watching YouTube or crushing candies.The solution to this problem is the free Ghost Contact app from developer Ikraam MX on Google Play. With it, you can reply to texts seamlessly without ever leaving the app you're currently in. In addition, you'll be able to send new texts and make phone calls to favorite contacts as well. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.

Step 1: Assign Your "Favorite" ContactsGet started by opening up Ghost Contact and selecting your favorite contacts from the preloaded list. You'll be able to select as many contacts as you like, although anything more than eight can cause the app to become glitchy when scrolling down through your Ghost Contact list.

Step 2: Set Custom Contact List ColorsNext, tap on Setting and select the colors for your layout. Background Color will adjust the color of the contacts list. The Call and SMS background colors are the options that are exposed once you tap on your contact. After picking out your colors, tap activate to On.

Step 3: Compose or Reply to Messages from Within Any AppNew messages from your selected contacts will create a toast notification towards the bottom of your screen. Once you get your notification, slide from the left border of your screen to the right, which will bring up your contact list. Now tap on the contact you received the message from and select SMS. You can also compose a new message to any contact here, as the slide out menu is active regardless of whether or not you just received a message. If you have an active conversation with a contact, you will be able to view your conversation and respond accordingly. After typing and sending the message, the side bar will disappear, and you'll be able to continue doing whatever it is you were doing. You can also just tap the arrow above the contact list to have it slide out of sight.
Ghost Contact Is Not a Replacement Messaging AppKeep in mind that Ghost Contact does not replace your stock messaging app, so you can still receive notifications from and view conversation threads in the stock app on your Samsung Galaxy S4 or other Android phone.
Ghost Contact's Functionality on the Lock ScreenYour contact list is available on the lock screen, but you will not be able to compose or reply to a text until you unlock the device, even if you have your lock screen security set to Swipe. You will, however, be able to make calls from the lock screen.

Step 4: Make Calls from AnywhereThe texting feature may not work on your lock screen, but the calling feature does, so it literally lets you make a quick call from anywhere on your device to one of your selected contacts. Pull open your Ghost Contacts, tap on your buddy's name, and make the call.

Security also seems to be a small issue—while I can't text from the lock screen, I'm able to make a call, which can become a problem if a stranger gets ahold of my device.Luckily, the developer is great at receiving and reacting to user feedback. Instagram is a great platform to share photos and videos with the world, but sharing with smaller groups is near impossible. You can directly message photos, stories, or post links to friends, but that only works for one person at a time. To share your content with a small group of people you care about at the same time, you'll have to use the new "Close Friends" list.Most likely, you won't find this feature in your app as it stands. That's because Instagram hasn't rolled out Close Friends to the public yet. The Next Web reports Instagram has been testing the feature throughout this year, with no indication of when it will officially release.Don't Miss: How to Send Private Instagram Stories to 'Close Friends' Only That being said, your best chance to experience the Close Friends option is to sign up for the Instagram beta. There's no guarantee that you will find the feature if you do, but if Instagram were to test out a feature like this, the beta would most likely be their platform of choice. If Your App Includes Close Friends ...If you do gain access to Close Friends (previously called "Favorites"), you can add as many users as you like, all of whom will then receive any photos or stories sent to the group in their individual feeds. So, it's not like a direct message at all, but a regular post or story that only some people can see.
